Do you want to learn how to make a queimada and how to recite a conxuro? When you experience this ritual in Santiago de Compostela, you'll enter the world of the Galician meigas.

Description

With its elusive origins shrouded in mystery, some attribute the inception of queimada to Celtic times in Galicia, while others trace its roots back to the Middle Ages. Regardless of the historical debate, it's clear that this alcoholic beverage has been traditionally used for dispelling curses and warding off evil spirits.

Prepare to immerse yourself in the enchanting culture of Galicia! We'll meet at the Plaza de San Martiño at the indicated time. From there we'll head to the bar where the ceremony will begin.

We'll gather around a table with a large mud pot in the centre. We'll enlist the expertise of a meigagallega, the term by which the local witches are known in this region, who'll explain how to make the queimada.

Water, earth and fire, the three most important elements of nature, will be present in the elaboration of this drink. The meiga will recite the incantation, traditionally known as the conxuro da queimada, invoking good fortune just before tasting the drink.

After the ritual, we'll taste the freshly prepared queimada.
