Cathedral of Santiago & Portico of Glory Guided Tour

At the indicated time we'll meet in the central Plaza del Obradoiro, in front of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, to begin to discover the history and art of this important monument.

We'll begin our guided tour of Santiago Cathedral by admiring the famous Portico de la Gloria. This colossal door, the work of Master Mateo, is made up of more than 200 sculptures that have recovered much of their original decoration thanks to restoration work. We'll talk to you about the important symbolism of this medieval jewel.

After a 20-minute break so that you can take your time to look at each figure in the Pórtico de la Gloria, we'll go to the Cathedral Museum. Here we'll see its permanent collection, which houses the botafumeiros (Galician for smoke expeller) the famous thurible, ancient codices, liturgical goldsmithery, rococo furniture, Flemish tapestries and other pieces of great value. During this part of the tour, we'll also visit the Gothic-Renaissance cloister of the cathedral.

At the end of the tour of the museum, we'll visit the interior of the Cathedral of Santiago to see the famous Botafumeiro, the High Altar and the amazing Chapel of the Corticela.

After a 2 hour and 15 minute tour, we'll say our goodbyes inside the cathedral.
