Chile's recent history is marked by the Pinochet dictatorship and the transition to democracy. Discover this country's history on this tour of the Museum of Memory and Human Rights in Santiago.

Museum of Memory and Human Rights Tour

We'll meet up at the scheduled time next to Quinta Normal Park, one of Santiago's green spaces. This idyllic area has been the scene of some of the most important events in the country's recent history, such as the occupation by Chilean troops and the mass arrest of protesters in the 1970s.

On one side of Quinta Normal Park is the Museum of Memory and Human Rights, an iconic institution in Santiago de Chile. This gallery dedicated to peace and memory is the best place to understand what happened in Chile between 1973 and 1990.

We'll visit all 11 rooms of the Museum of Memory of Santiago to learn about the background and the course of the Pinochet dictatorship: how the coup d'état was conceived, how the guerrilla groups fought, and who succeeded him in office. We'll reveal these and many other fascinating facts as we stroll through the museum's various exhibitions.

Based on photographs, real testimonies, and audiovisual material, we'll try to understand the way of life of the Chilean population during the years of dictatorship. The museum also delves into the figure of Salvador Allende, the first democratically elected socialist president in the world.

During the tour, you'll have the opportunity to observe chilling objects, such as an iron cross that was found in a common grave or a metal ladder from the torture centers of the Chilean secret police.

The last room we'll visit on the tour will be the outer courtyard, where we'll say our goodbyes after 2 hours of history.
