Tayrona Park Day Trip
Day Trip Details
Once we've picked you up from your hotel in Santa Marta bright and early, we'll head northeast. After driving for 1 hour 30 minutes, we'll get to Tayrona Park. This beautiful spot is located between the Caribbean Sea and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
When we arrive, we'll start with a brief introduction to nature conservation and then we'll begin to explore the jungle trails.
We'll spend a total of 4 hours walking alongside trees that tower over 82 feet (25 metres) high and discover some of the Tayrona National Park's rich ecosystem. And, if we're lucky, we might see some iguanas, howler monkeys, ocelots, anteaters, and solitary eagles.
Next, we'll make our way to the Caribbean coastline and stroll along the idyllic beaches of Cañaveral, Arrecifes, Arenilla and La Piscina. Next, we'll continue to Cape San Juan del Guía, which is one of the most popular spots in Tayrona.
You'll have some free time here to sample the local gastronomy at one of the nearby restaurants. Afterwards, we'll head to Cape San Juan's viewpoint to admire a unique panoramic view of the Colombian landscape.
Then, it's time to return to Santa Marta and drop you off at your accommodation 11 hours after pickup.
Walking Times
Please note that on this tour, we'll embark on a 16-kilometer (9.9 mile) medium-hard difficulty hike. The hike will take 4 hours to complete: 2 hours walking, 2 hours going, and 2 hours returning.
Speedboat Trip
When booking, you can choose from three different options regarding the speedboat between Cabo San Juan to Santa Marta Bay.
Tour with return trip by speedboat: if you choose this option, we'll return by speedboat from Cabo San Juan to Santa Maria Bay. This way, you don't have to walk 2 hours and you can enjoy more time in Cape San Juan and its beaches until 4 pm when you'll catch the speedboat back. This option does not include the transfer back to the hotels in Santa Marta.
Tour with outward and return speed boat: in this case, we'll take the speedboat there and back, saving you the walk both ways. In addition, this option includes the transfer back to the hotels in Santa Marta.
