Santa Marta Churches Tour
Description
At the scheduled time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Santa Marta. Are you ready to go on a walking tour of the most beautiful cities on Colombia's Caribbean coast?
We'll first make our way to the San Juan de Dios Chapel, a beautiful church built in the colonial style that dates back to 1746. Currently, it is one of the most revered churches in Santa Marta. Don't skip discovering why it is so well-renowned!
We'll continue this tour of Santa Marta at the old Capuchin Monks convent, built in the 18th century in the Baroque style. In this monastery, which has a stunning central patio, we'll see the interesting symbols that it holds and learn about its history. Did you know it was an important centre for learning and religious meetings during the colonial age?
The next stop will be in front of the San Francisco de Asís Church, declared a National Monument. This church has overcome much adversity in the past including earthquakes and pirate attacks. It even used to house a women's prison!
We'll then make our way to the main religious structure in the city. The Santa María Cathedral Basilica. Which is considered one of the oldest churches in Latin America. We'll then head inside to admire its stained glass windows and learn about its history. The site even housed the remains of Simón Bolívar before they were moved to Venezuela.
Finally, we'll pass by the Santa María Bishops House, and after 1.5 hours, we'll bring the tour to an end back at the the hotels.
