Cartagena Day Trip

Having picked you up at 6 am from your hotel in Santa Marta, we'll set off on our journey to Cartagena de Indias. As we drive through the Colombian scenery, we'll have some breakfast. After around 3 hours 30 minutes on the road, we'll reach our destination. Welcome to Cartagena!

When we get there, we'll skirt the Caribbean Sea to explore the neighbourhoods of Laguito, Castillo Grande and Bocagrande. Did you know that the latter has long, white sandy beaches? At around 12 noon, we'll head to the Convent of Santa Cruz de la Popa, which is located atop a hill 485 feet (148 metres) above sea level. We'll head inside this building and admire its Spanish-style interior courtyards and the iconic Church of Candelaria.

We'll then return to the walled city to have lunch at the well-known "La Mulata" restaurant. For lunch, we'll have fish soup, coconut rice, tostones and salad. Afterwards, we'll head up to the San Felipe de Barajas Castle. This impressive fortress was built in 1657 and is one of the most recognisable symbols of the Spanish colonial period.

Afterwards, we'll stroll through the city centre's commercial district. As we stroll past the Colombian handicraft shops, we'll come to the Gold Museum. Let's head inside! Next, we'll pass by the Plaza de Bolivar and the Plaza de San Pedro, two of the liveliest spots in the city.

Finally, we'll make our way back to Santa Marta, where we'll arrive after 3 hours 30 minutes. We'll then accompany you back to your accommodation where we'll say our goodbyes.
