Pedra de Lume + Santa Maria Salt Mines Tour
Pedra de Lume + Santa Maria Salt Mines Tour
We'll pick you up between 8:20 and 8:40 am at your hotel in Santa Maria, from where we'll embark on a tour to visit two of the most famous places on the island of Sal.
The first will be Pedra de Lume, the oldest settlement on the island of Sal, founded in 1804. After a stroll through this town, we'll visit its famous salt mines, one of the main tourist attractions of the region. Did you know that it's the only salt deposit in the world located in the crater of a volcano?
This place has some extraordinary views, with its salt-covered landscapes of pink and turquoise tones. Since 2004, this area has been included in the Unesco list of candidates to be declared a World Heritage Site.
We'll then head to our next destination, the Santa Maria salt marshes. Here we'll learn about the importance of the salt industry for the island, and then return to the town of Santa Maria to relax in a restaurant overlooking the sea, where we'll enjoy an aperitif of typical products. You'll taste delicacies such as fidjoss or baobab juice.
Finally, we'll end the tour by taking you back to your hotel, where we'll arrive around 12:30 pm.
