Description
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Santa Maria to begin an interesting tour of this important university city in Rio Grande do Sul - one of the largest higher education centres in Brazil.
This tour of Santa Maria will bring us to the Federal University. Founded in 1960, this university is one of the biggest in all of Brazil. We'll also visit various buildings of religious significance, including the Basilica Shrine of Our Lady Mediatrix of All Graces and the Cathedral of Our Lady of Conception - which is renowned for its combination of neo-baroque and neoclassical architecture.
We'll also visit the so-called Belgian Village of Santa Maria, a historic neighbourhood that grew rapidly in the 19th century as a result of the boom of its railway station. We'll delve into the fascinating history of this area before we take some time to enjoy a delicious lunch of chicken and pasta!
We'll then hop onto the minibus and head toward Mata, a municipality known as an authentic open-air museum due to its beautiful old town. This town also stands out for the numerous fossils found in its surroundings. We'll explore these findings by visiting the Paleobotanical Garden and the Padre Daniel Cargnin Museum, where we can observe remains of animals and plants dating back more than 200 million years.
Next, we'll hop back onto the minibus to start the return trip to Santa Maria, where we'll finish the activity after a total of 8 hours.
