Discover one of the most famous Bolivian archaeological sites on our Samaipata 2 Day Trip from Santa Cruz de la Sierra. You'll explore a historic place at the foot of the Bolivian Andes and visit a charming town.
Samaipata 2 Day Trip
Day 1: Santa Cruz - Samaipata
At 8 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel and set off west from Santa Cruz de la Sierra towards Samaipata. On the way, you'll look out at incredible views of the rugged Bolivian plains, which are dotted with small, picturesque villages.
Before reaching our destination we'll stop at Cuevas, which is home to the most beautiful waterfalls in this region. Here, you'll be able to have lunch on your own before continuing on to Fort Samaipata. The name of this place means "rest between mountains" in Quechua, which describes these pre-Columbian ruins nestled in the mountains perfectly.
We'll visit the archaeological complex of Samaipata, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998, and walk among its buildings carved in stone. Time for a fun fact! This spot has been inhabited by three different civilizations. After the tour, we'll go to the town of Samaipata where we'll spend the night.
Day 2: Samaipata - Santa Cruz
Good morning! After you've had breakfast, we'll visit Samaipata. This small town was founded by Spanish settlers in 1618 due to its strategic location between Santa Cruz and Vallegrande. During our visit, we'll learn about the fascinating history of this town, such as its role in Che Guevara's guerilla campaign in Bolivia.
Next, we'll visit the Archaeological Museum of Samaipata. This colonial-style building houses ceramics, statuettes and other objects found during the excavations of the fort.
After 2 unforgettable days, we'll return to Santa Cruz de la Sierra and drop you back at your hotel at around 6 pm.
