Visit the Jesuit Missions of San Javier, Concepción or San José on our day trip from Santa Cruz de la Sierra. You'll immerse yourself in the fascinating history of these Andean reductions, which are a collective UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Jesuit Missions Day Trip
When making your booking, you'll be able to choose between two different options. Both options include pick up from your hotel in Santa Cruz de la Sierra and have a duration of 13 hours.
San Javier & Concepción Day Trip
After picking you up at 7 am, we'll drive to the villages of Cotoca, Pailas, Paillón and Los Troncos, which played an important role in the Bolivian Jesuit Missions.
During the journey, we'll learn all about these reductions. They were founded at the end of the 17th century with the objective of evangelising the territories of the New World and, today, they remain almost completely intact. Due to this movement, Bolivia has six towns recognised as World Heritage Sites.
At around 11:30 am we'll arrive at San Javier, which was founded in 1691. We'll explore this mission, the oldest in Bolivia, and head inside the Mission Museum. After this visit, we'll travel to Concepción and have a delicious traditional lunch.
We'll then explore this 18th-century jewel and see its different arts and crafts workshops, where the local Chiquitanos make traditional pieces to keep the economy of the missions up and running.
San José Day Trip
At 7:30 am, we'll drive to the Jesuit Mission of San José. After a 4-hour drive through the beautiful Bolivian countryside, we'll arrive at this church. During our visit, we'll see the whole church and visit the museum.
Next, we'll eat a traditional meal and then travel to Santa Cruz la Vieja. We'll make a stop at this viewpoint so you can see breathtaking views of the Chiquitano Valley. The next stop on our day trip will be at the local handicraft centre, where we'll learn all about the work done by its residents.
