Roque de los Muchachos Tour
Description
After collecting you from one of the meeting points between 8:30 and 10 am, we'll head to the Caldera de Taburiente National Park, located in the heart of the island, climbing up to 2,000 meters.
During the journey, we'll enjoy incredible views of Santa Cruz de La Palma as we provide commentary on the native vegetation that surrounds us. From the bus, we'll see Canarian pines and the famous tajinaste plants, which are only visible from May to July.
We'll talk about the formation of the Caldera de Taburiente, one of the largest clefts in the world, and continue up through the mountain peaks until we get to Roque de los Muchachos. Standing 2426 meters (7.959 ft)-above sea level, it's the highest peak of “La Isla Bonita” (The Pretty Island) and the Caldera de Taburiente National Park.
Enjoy the stunning views from several viewpoints at the top and spot some of the other Canary Islands like El Hierro, La Gomera, and Tenerife. Your expert English-speaking guide will also reveal interesting facts about the Roque de los Muchachos Astrophysics Observatory, home to some of the most powerful telescopes in the world. It was placed here because the top of the island boasts one of the clearest skies on the planet. We'll even get to go inside one of the telescopes so that you can check out what it's like from the interior. We'll stretch our legs and return to the bus to end the excursion, taking you back to the meeting point. Arrival at these locations is scheduled 5 hours after pickup.
