Explore Historic Santa Barbara
Join us for a walking tour of Santa Barbara's historic downtown area, as we meet along State Street, from where we'll set off to discover the amazing monuments and history of Santa Barbara.
We'll begin our adventure strolling down the city's main street. Here, we'll find wine-tasting rooms, artisanal shops, and contemporary art galleries. Mixed in with the modern is also the historical, and an excellent example of that is the Arlington Theater, a historic Mission-style theater. Further along down the street we'll also find the Granada Theater, full of golden opulence, reminiscent of the golden age of cinema.
From here, we'll walk over towards the Santa Barbara Courthouse. Don't worry, though—this courthouse is known for more than just official business! Inside, we'll find the Mural Room with walls decorated from top to bottom with beautiful imagery. These murals are especially interesting as they capture Santa Barbara's unique ties to Chumash, Spanish, Mexican, and immigrant culture.
Throughout the tour, our guide will share fascinating insights and fun facts about the city's historic development as a seaside resort. We'll learn about the Chumash Tribe who lived here, the earthquake that reshaped the town, and celebrities who call this area home. Plus, we'll see many buildings by Santa Barbara native and architect Jeff Shelton! His whimsical and unique buildings are sure to captivate you throughout the tour.
Then, after 3 hours, we'll bring our experience to an end in front of the Ablitt House in central Santa Barbara.
