Ready to climb one of the highest points in El Salvador? If so, we'll meet at the appointed time at the Campo Bello Hotel in Santa Ana. After the introduction, we'll head to the start of the trail that will take us to the top of the Santa Ana volcano. Let's go for a hike!
The uphill trekking, of approximately 2 hours, will start at the El Peñón trail. From the get-go, we'll start crossing the microclimates at the foot of this volcano, also known as Ilamatepec. At first, we'll be surrounded by the cloud forest of Santa Ana to arid landscapes in the heights.
During the hike, we'll talk to you about the biodiversity of the park. In addition, we'll take breaks to rest at viewpoints that will give us beautiful panoramic views of the Izalco volcano, the Cerro Verde and Lake Coatepeque. It will be a spectacle that will make us connect with the most beautiful nature in the west of El Salvador.
When you least expect it, we'll reach the top of the volcano. Be prepared to be welcomed by its stunning turquoise lagoon! We'll reach more than 2000 metres (6561 ft) above sea level. We'll undoubtedly feel the change in altitude and breathe the purest air as we enjoy the feeling of satisfaction at the summit.
After enjoying this natural enclave, we'll start the descent hike until we reach the initial meeting point. There, we'll enjoy a well-deserved snack to end the day on a high note.
Finally, we'll say goodbye after a total of 4 hours of experience.
