The Codorníu winery is an essential place to learn about the history of cava in Spain. Let yourself be surprised by its beautiful architecture and the long tradition it hides inside.
Codorníu Winery Guided Tour
At the scheduled time, we'll meet at the entrance of the Codorníu winery, located on the outskirts of San Sadurní de Noya, about 47 km (29 miles) away from Barcelona. Are you ready to discover one of the most famous brands of cava in Spain?
During the 90-minute guided tour, we'll go over the history of the family of winegrowers who began making cava in the Alto Penedés region in the 16th century. As soon as you start, you'll be struck by the architecture of the winery, designed by the modernist Josep Puig i Cadafalch, who carried out the extension with a clear similarity to the works of Gaudí.
Declared a Historic-Artistic Monument, the Codorníu winery is a great reference point for cava. To find out more about how they make their sparkling wines, we'll visit the Celler Gran museum and cellar. Here you'll see an exhibition of the traditional machinery used for pressing and fermenting the grapes, which will surprise you with its good state of conservation!
In addition, we'll go into the underground cellars, where we'll take a train tour of the different rooms. To end the experience in the best possible way, you'll have the opportunity to taste two top-of-the-range Codorniu cavas - the perfect finishing touch!
