Discover the fishing tradition of the Basque Country with this excursion to three of its top seafaring towns. See the colorful streets of Hondarribia and take a boat from San Juan to San Pedro to explore its most special corners.
Hondarribia, San Juan & San Pedro Tour
We'll meet at the San Sebastián Bus Station to head to Hondarribia, a fishing village located in the northeast of Guipúzcoa. On our walk through town, we'll enjoy the colorful façades of San Nikolas Kalea, pass through the Puerta de Santa María de Atea in the historic center and pose next to the well-known sculpture of "Hatxero". Do you know what it represents? We'll also visit the Town Hall, the Casadevante Palace and the Zuloaga Palace.
We'll then hit the road to San Juan, located at the foot of Mount Jaizkibel. We'll stroll along the old pier and the fishermen's houses hanging from the mountains, and see some of the palaces and churches that fill this historic town. We'll also have the opportunity to visit a typical 17th-century house with direct access to the bay - French poet Victor Hugo stayed here in 1843!
In this town, we'll take a fishing boat across the bay to San Pedro, a village where we'll continue to learn about the seafaring tradition of the Basque Country. Upon arrival, we'll find La Torre, the ruins of an ancient defensive fortress, and head into the old town to walk through its cobblestone streets overlooking the sea.
Finally, after a 4-hour excursion, we'll return to San Sebastián.
