Mayan Route Trip

After picking you up from your selected meeting point in San Salvador, we'll begin our tour along the famous Mayan Route. After driving for around an hour, we'll reach our first destination: the archaeological site of Joya de Cerén. We'll spend an hour and a half at this magical location, known as the "Pompeii of America", where you'll discover a pre-Columbian Mayan village. You'll learn about how the volcanic ashes of an eruption helped to keep the site so well preserved.

Then we hit the road again, on a 20-minute journey to the amazing archaeological site of San Andrés which has almost intact structures. We will stroll through its streets and explore the most iconic area, known as La Campana (The Bell) due to its peculiar shape. During our one-hour tour of these fascinating ruins, you'll imagine what life was like for the Mayan nobility around 600 A.D.

We'll continue our journey along the Mayan Route by heading to the ancient city of Santa Ana, where we'll spend one hour exploring these fascinating archaeological remains from the pre-classic period. Our guide will tell you all about the origins of this ancient city. We'll also discover the current city, visiting the Theater, the Municipal Palace, and the Gothic-style Cathedral.

Then we leave Santa Ana behind and head to the archaeological site of Tazumal around thirty minutes away, near the city of Chalchuapa. Once there, we'll spend around an hour exploring the largest pyramid in El Salvador. Walking among the ruins, we'll hear all about the history of what was an important Mayan city.

At the end of this visit, we'll head back to San Salvador and drop you back at the meeting point.
