Gulf of Fonseca 2-Day Tour

Day 1

We'll meet first thing in the morning to begin our 2-day tour of the Gulf of Fonseca, a protected paradise in the Pacific Ocean, considered by many to be the best natural harbor in the world.

Our first stop will be the volcano of Conchagua, a protected area of El Salvador located at the western end of the Gulf of Fonseca. From here you'll have one of the best panoramic views of the country, so don't forget your camera - you won't want to miss these snapshots!

When booking the tour, you also have the option to substitute the visit to the Conchagua Volcano for a visit to Las Tunas Beach, a perfect spot to relax in the sun and enjoy some seafood, a local speciality. 

The tour will continue with a guided tour of the town of Conchagua, where we'll find one of the oldest churches in El Salvador. We'll visit one of the local markets where you can buy the famous pupusas, a delicious typical Salvadorian dish.

Finally, we'll travel to La Union, where we'll spend the night.

Day 2

We'll have breakfast at the hotel and head to the Central American Port of La Union to board a boat that will take us to our first stop: the island of Meanguera.

We'll spend approximately half an hour on this island learning about its volcanic origin, as well as the peculiarity that the borders of El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua converge in this territory.

We'll return to the boat to visit Zacatillo, an island where you'll be able to try its rich gastronomy at one of its restaurants. During the approximately two hours you'll spend on the island, you'll have free time to explore the area at your leisure.

Following this visit, we'll hop back on the boat to visit another of the paradisiacal islands of the Gulf of Fonseca. This time we visit Isla Conejo, meaning 'Rabbit Island', a tiny island that is currently under dispute with Honduras.

Finally, we'll return to the port of La Union and head back to San Salvador, where the tour will end.

Accommodation

The 2-day tour of the Gulf of Fonseca includes one night's accommodation at the 4-star Comfort Inn Hotel. The tour also includes breakfast on the second day.

Pickup

This tour includes pickup from hotels in San Salvador and El Tunco. You can select when booking which area you'd like to be picked up from. If you choose pickup from El Tunco, we'll pick you up from your hotel 40 minutes before the indicated time.
