Experience a day immersed in the fascinating history and stunning nature of three of the most iconic locations in San Salvador. You'll enter the beautiful Natural Protected Area of Cerro Verde, and travel back in time to the ancient Mayan era when you visit the ruins of Joya de Cerén and San Andrés.

Description

We'll pick you up at your selected pickup point, before departing on a one-hour drive. We'll arrive at the Los Volcanes National Park, which is a large area of volcanoes and lakes.

Upon arriving, we'll set off on a wonderful 45-minute hike toward the magnificent Cerro Verde Volcano, located at an altitude of 2,035 meters (6,600 feet). We'll follow the ecological trails and you'll have the opportunity to admire the Santa Ana Volcano and the Izalco Volcano, nicknamed the 'Lighthouse of the Pacific'.

We'll stroll through a beautiful cloud forest before we reach the crater near the summit of Cerro Verde Volcano. Surrounded by typical plant species of the area, such as the Giant Agave, we'll admire this spectacular natural jewel. We'll enjoy views of the volcanic lake of Coatepeque, one of the most beautiful in the world.

In the afternoon, we'll trek through the Salvadoran landscape to the amazing archaeological site of Joya de Cerén. Known as the "Pompeii of America", there you'll discover a pre-Columbian Mayan agricultural village. As we explore the streets, you'll learn all about why the structures are so well preserved.

Then we leave Joya de Cerén behind and head to the archeological site of San Andrés, where we continue learning about the Mayan people. In what used to be one of the ceremonial and political centers of civilization, we'll explore various structures used by the rulers. We'll even see the remains of an indigo mill which was buried by the eruption of El Playón in 1658.

Then we hit the road again and head back to San Salvador, where our fantastic adventure ends.
