Oxapampa & Chontabamba Tour
Oxapampa + Chontabamba Tour
At 8:30 am we'll pick you up from your hotel in San Ramon and head north towards the province of Oxapampa, where we'll visit two of its main towns.
On the way, we'll stop at the Mezapata viewpoint to observe from this point the amazing Paucartambo river canyon, the natural border between the regions of Junín and Pasco. We'll also take the opportunity to visit a traditional sugar mill, where we'll see a sugar cane mill that has been in use since the 19th century!
Afterwards we'll arrive in Chontabamba and visit its main square and its wooden church, built in Austro-German style. Here we'll talk about the history of the European settlers who established themselves in the province of Oxapampa in the 19th century.
Afterwards, we'll go to the Tunqui Cave, a cavern whose interior houses a curious landscape of stalactites and stalagmites. We'll continue with a visit to a dairy factory, where we'll see how they make different products derived from milk, such as cheese, butter and yoghurt.
Then we'll go to the town of Oxapampa, where we'll leave you free time to have lunch and taste the local cuisine.
After the break, we'll enjoy a guided tour of Oxapampa, where we'll visit its most iconic spots: the Plaza de Armas, the Colonists' promenade and the church of Santa Rosa, a beautiful wooden building influenced by Austro-German architecture.
After getting to know the European heritage of these two cities, we'll return to San Ramón. You'll be dropped off at your hotel around 7 pm.
