Explore awe-inspiring Andean landscapes with this special excursion to the Las Leñas Valley, home to one of the largest ski resorts in South America.
Description
We'll pick you up from your hotel in San Rafael at 8:15 am and head south, driving through the remarkable province of Mendoza. We'll first drive past the Salinas del Diamante and the Los Parlamentos plains.
We'll then drive to the El Sosneado neighbourhood where we'll learn about the FAU 571 plane crash. The plane, which took off from Montevideo and was bound for Santiago de Chile, unexpectedly crashed into a glacier, forcing the 16 survivors of the crash to resort to eating human flesh for 72 days in order to survive.
The route will continue along the Atuel River before we approach the Las Leñas Valley. We'll admire this captivating landscape from the Infiernillo viewpoint and visit the Niña Encantada Lagoon, which stands out for its turquoise waters. We'll also stop at the amazing Las Ánimas well.
Our next stop is at an altitude of 2,000 metres (6,561 feet) where we'll find the Las Leñas Ski Resort. This complex has 29 slopes with 65 kilometres (40 miles) of skiable runs as well as a variety of hotels and restaurants where you can recharge your batteries.
Finally, you'll return to your hotel in San Rafael, arriving around 7:30 pm.
