Rainbow Valley Day Trip
Rainbow Valley Day Trip
At the indicated time, we'll you up from your hotel in San Pedro de Atacama and head south towards the foothills of the Cordillera Domeyko mountain range. During the journey, you'll admire wonderful desert landscapes and the huge peaks of the Andes.
Our first stop will be the archaeological site of Yerbas Buenas, where you'll see the famous collection of ancient rock art from the different cultures that once inhabited this region. However, before this we'll enjoy a delicious breakfast. We'll walk through the pre-Colombian site and view the petroglyphs that have been carved onto the rocks using sharp stone tools. These fascinating carvings depict animals, scenes of daily life and even constellations of the stars.
Next, we'll head to Rainbow Valley and pass through the town of Matancilla on the way. When we arrive, you'll be struck by the colourful rocks that gave this place its name. You'll also discover why the minerals are lined up in colourful strips, creating an environment so incredible that it almost appears man-made. Rainbow Valley also has unusual rock formations which have been eroded and shaped by the wind over millions of years.
Finally, we'll make our way back to San Pedro de Atacama, where we'll bring this tour to an end after between 4.5 and 6 hours.
