Tafí del Valle Trip
Tafí del Valle Trip
We will depart from your hotel in San Miguel de Tucumán at 8:30 am before heading south from the city. Our first stop is at the Jesuit ruins of San José de Lules. After learning all about the Society of Jesus in the province of Tucumán, we then continue our journey, following the legendary Route 307.
Crossing the beautiful natural landscapes of the Los Sosa ravine, we will reach the iconic sculpture of El Chasqui, popularly known as the Monument to the Indian. At the foot of this 20-foot high statue, which is in honor of the native people of the region, we will hear all about the local indigenous customs and traditions which date back to pre-colonial times.
Our route continues in the Tafí Valley following the shoreline of La Angostura reservoir. Along the way, we stop at El Mollar to visit the famous Archaeological Reserve of the Menhirs. This site hosts a set of more than 50 megalith stones dating back to around 800 b.c. Researchers believe that they were built by the first tribe in Northwestern Argentina and that they represent fertility.
From El Mollar we then travel to the town of Tafí del Valle. Here, you will have your own free time to take lunch in the town and visit some of its top attractions, such as the La Banda Jesuit Complex. In the afternoon, we will meet up again and head to a well-known viewpoint so you can enjoy a fantastic panorama of the Tafí Valley.
Once we have finished enjoying the stunning views, we will take you back to your accommodation in San Miguel de Tucumán for 4:30 pm.
