Medieval Winery Tour
Tour Details
At the end of this visit with tasting, which will last approximately 30 minutes, we will reveal a secret of the winery that has remained hidden for centuries. We are sure you will be surprised!
Nestled in the heart of the Sierra de Francia, in the southern part of Salamanca province, the charming village of San Martín del Castañar is home to fewer than 300 residents. Despite its small size, this picturesque town holds a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Our adventure begins at the designated time at Number 2 Callejina, the site of the renowned Medieval Cellar.
What is the origin of this ancient site? How many centuries of history does it hold? We'll uncover these mysteries as we tour the winery, delving into the production process of wines made from the unique rufete grape. Along the way, we'll also encounter traditional farming tools and artifacts that showcase the area's rich viticultural heritage.
Following our journey through the winery’s history, we'll indulge in a tasting of two rufete grape wines with the prestigious PDO Sierra de Salamanca certification. Guests will sample both a young wine and a crianza, accompanied by tapas of acorn-fed Iberian salami, chorizo, seasonal olives, and rustic village bread. Gluten-free snack options are also available. For visitors under 18, the tasting includes one red and one white must.
To conclude our 30-minute visit, we'll unveil a centuries-old secret hidden within the winery's walls — a surprise that is sure to leave you in awe!
