On this hike from San Martín de los Andes, we'll ascend the Colorado Volcano and enjoy magnificent views of the Patagonian lakes.
Description
At the indicated time we'll pick you up at your hotel in San Martín de los Andes, from which point we'll drive to the Colorado Volcano, which is 30 minutes away.
Once we arrive at the foot of this crater, we'll begin this medium-difficulty hiking route, which will last a total of 5 hours spread over several stages following an 8.5-kilometre (5.2-mile) trail with an 800-metre (2625-foot) vertical climb. Let's go!
We'll cross a Patagonian forest through to a rocky area, from which we'll continue the trekking route to the summit of the Colorado Volcano, boasting an altitude of 1742 metres (5700 feet)! The reddish colour that gives this mountain its name comes from an ancient lava flow, the remains of which we'll see during the ascent.
From the top of the Colorado Volcano, we'll also enjoy excellent views of the south face of the Lanín volcano and the valleys of the Lácar and Lolog lakes. While we enjoy the panoramic views, you can take some time to eat some of the food you have brought with you.
Finally, we'll walk back to the beginning of the trail, where the vehicle will be waiting to take us back to San Martín de los Andes. Arrival at your hotel is scheduled for 6 hours after pickup.
