Sendero del Capitán Hiking Tour
Sendero del Capitán Hiking Tour
At 6:30 am we'll pick you up at your hotel in San Luis Potosi and head to the outskirts of the city, specifically to the starting point of the 'Sendero del Capitan'. We'll discover the history of the city by hiking!
We'll start this route on foot from the Cerro de San Pedro, the place where San Luis Potosí was founded. Did you know that before becoming a city it was a prolific gold and silver mining centre? As we walk along the trail, we'll cross different types of landscapes, from meadows and forests to the semi-desert of Potosí.
The route along the Sendero del Capitán will take us through Monte Caldera until we reach Armadillo de los Infante, famous for being the first point in San Luis Potosí to have a printing press. We'll also stroll through the cobblestone streets of this small town full of 17th-century buildings.
Throughout the tour, we'll unveil the story of Captain Miguel Caldera, son of a Guachichil Indian and a Castilian captain, who played an important role in the pacification and colonisation of the region. We'll also enter a cave, where we'll see an underground world that will leave you speechless.
After 19 kilometres (11 miles), we'll arrive at a ranch where we'll enjoy a delicious barbecue-style meal. With your bellies full, we'll take you back to your hotel in San Luis Potosi and the activity will end at 6:30 pm.
