Santa Maria del Rio Tour
At 10 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel and start our trip to Santa Maria del Rio. Did you know that this is one of the four magical villages in the state of San Luis Potosi? Let's go discover why it's considered so magical!
After an hour's drive, we'll arrive in Santa Maria del Rio, known for being the place where the rebozo, a type of shawl, originated. Our first stop will be at a workshop where this traditional garment is crafted. There you'll learn about how it's made using ancient techniques that have been passed down from generation to generation.
Next, we'll visit the Casa del Rebozo, the only place in the world devoted to the preservation, promotion, and dissemination of this traditional clothing item of this 'magical village'. Through its interactive exhibit and different objects, we'll learn about the origin of the rebozo, how it's made, the kind of stitches that are woven, the spools of thread, and the artifacts that were used in the past.
Our next destination will be the Church of the Assumption, undoubtedly the best example of colonial religious architecture in Santa Maria del Rio. This building, which began as part of the 17th-century Franciscan convent, is surrounded by handicraft stores and traditional bakeries.
Lastly, we'll end this tour by dropping you off at your hotel at 2.30 pm.
