Hiking in San Lorenzo
Hiking in San Lorenzo
When making your booking, you'll be able to opt for a 3 or 7-hour route. In both cases, we'll meet up at your chosen time on Calle Juan Carlos Dávalos.
3-Hour Route
To begin, we'll make our way across the beautiful colonial town of San Lorenzo and head to its outskirts. When we get there, we'll find the ravine of the same name. From here, we'll continue our route along the trails that line the San Lorenzo River.
As we follow the course of the river, we'll head up several slopes that'll take us to different viewpoints in the area. We'll gaze out at incredible panoramic views of Salta, as the provincial capital is only a few miles away.
During our tour, we'll also have the chance to explore a unique biome. This would be the famous yungas of San Lorenzo. This type of Andean forest isn't the only botanical treasure we'll see along the route, as we'll also spot trees endemic to this area such as cockspur coral trees, walnut trees, myrtles and alders.
Once we make it up to the highest point of our route, 5,900 feet (1,800 metres) above sea level, we'll gaze out at breathtaking views. If you look south, you'll see the entirety of the Lerma Valley before you. If you turn your gaze to the north and the west, you'll admire the Andean foothills.
We'll then take another path that'll lead us back to the starting point, where we'll say our goodbyes after 3 hours of walking.
Schedule: every day at 10 am and 3 pm.
7-Hour Route
This option is a high-difficulty route that'll cover a distance of 12 miles (19 kilometres) and reach an altitude of 7,870 feet (2,400 metres) above sea level.
Our route will begin with an ascent through the trails of the San Lorenzo ravine until we come to the Eastern Cordillera. Along the way, we'll see various trees typical of the Selva Montana, such as cockspur coral trees, walnut trees, laurels and cedars.
We'll also see lush ferns and diverse epiphytes and climbing plants, which are characteristic of this biome. In addition, during our tour we'll take in fantastic views of Lerma Valley and the Eastern Cordillera.
Schedule: every day at 10 am.
