Why Visit the Fortress of San Leo?

The Fortress of San Leo is one of Italy's most famous castles and, without a doubt, one of the best-preserved.

Did you know it was an important strategic point during the Middle Ages? Not only did it serve as a military fortress, but it was also a place of imprisonment for historical figures.

With your ticket, you'll step into one of the most stunning bastions of the country, explore the corners of this medieval castle, and discover a wide variety of exhibitions that will transport you back in time. From an extensive weapon collection dating back to the 16th century to items from the First and Second World War—this tour will take your breath away!

As you explore the fortress, you'll discover various examples of old and modern weapons, as well as instruments of torture and a replica of a Vasari fresco that represents the conquest of San Leo by the Médici.

Plus, you'll have access to the famous cell of the alchemist magician Count Cagliostro and the San Leo virtual ecomusuem, Musleo, which offers a unique perspective on the site.
