San Juan Gorges and Dams Tour
After picking you up from your hotel in San Juan at 2 pm, we will head to the Zonda ravine. This is an amazing narrow land gully flanked by the Marquesado and Chica de Zonda mountain ranges.
The tour continues by heading to the Punta Negra dam viewpoint. This hydroelectric dam is one of the main civil infrastructures in western Argentina. Inaugurated in 2015 by the then president of the country Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, it provides water to hundreds of thousands of people. What is most striking about this reservoir is its colossal size.
The route then zigzags up to the Los Caracoles dam also of enormous size. At full capacity it can hold 565 cubic hectometres of water, which is equivalent to the astronomical figure of 56,500,000,0000 litres or thousands of Olympic-size swimming!
Before returning to San Juan, we will make one last stop at the Ullum Dam observation point, which is perfectly located on the edge of the Ullum ravine. While we enjoy these wonderful landscapes, you will hear all about the technical aspects of the hydroelectric plant, which has a capacity of 41 megawatts.
Finally, we will return to your hotel in the city of San Juan, arriving at around 6 pm.
