Irazu Volcano, Orosi Valley and Lankester Garden Tour

  • 34 reviews | 201 travellers
The activity was excellent, thanks to Alejandro for giving us one of the best experiences. The weather did not help with the view of the volcano, but we took advantage of the clear moments. We were able to observe the Orosi Valley from a viewing point and it was spectacular. We finished off with a visit to the Lankester Garden. I will definitely recommend this activity to my clients.

Irazu Volcano, Orosi Valley, and Lankester Garden Tour

We'll pick you up from your hotel in San José and head to the province of Cartago, where we can find the Irazu Volcano. Along the route, we'll admire fertile lands and an abundance of local flora and fauna

At 3,432 meters high (11,259 feet), the Irazu Volcano is considered the most active volcano in Costa Rica. We'll explore one of its craters and marvel at a fascinating green lake of varying depth. What's more, views of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans from the volcano will take your breath away.

Then, we'll come back down to Earth as we make our descent into Cartago, the old capital city of Costa Rica. We'll pop into the Basilica of Our Lady of the Angels in the city of Cartago for a visit, and then we'll head to the Lankester Gardens, where we'll admire over 800 species of orchids and plants.

Next up, we'll recharge our batteries with a traditional Costa Rican meal. The menu consists of rice, beans, salad, meat (chicken, fish, or pork), dessert and a refreshing drink.

Then, we'll continue towards the spectacular Orosi and Ujarrás Valley, which are surrounded by beautiful mountains and diverse coffee and sugar cane farms, among others. During the colonial era, these valleys were settlements. In addition, they were also the scene of many different historical events such as pirate attacks, earthquakes and floods. This zone is also famous for the Franciscan Order, who were entrusted with the process of evangelisation and pioneers in the setting up of the first Catholic churches in the country.

At the end of the tour, we'll take you back to your hotels in San José after 11.5 hours of cultural adventure.
