Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave Trip
Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave Trip
We will pick you up at 8 a.m from your hotel in San Ignacio before setting off for Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave, about an hour and a half away. This is one of the most visited Mayan archaeological sites in all of Belize.
Inside the cave, we will discover how the Mayans understood and worshipped death. You will encounter human skeletons over a thousand years old. All of them were victims of sacrifices in honor of the god Chaac.
During the walk through the different parts of the cave, we will see up to 14 sets of human remains. You will hear all about why they were buried in Actun Tunichil Muknal. You will also learn about the history of the iconic Crystal Maiden and find out why people were buried next to pieces of pottery and clay.
After this amazing three hour tour, we will head back outside and enjoy a lunch consisting of rice, beans, chicken and fried plantain. Finally, we return to San Ignacio and accompany you back to your accommodation where the excursion finishes at 5 pm.
