SFMOMA and 20th-century art
The SFMOMOA is the second most important museum of modern art in the United States, only outshun by that of New York. In its different rooms, there are more than 47,000 pieces of art on exhibition, including sculptures, paintings, and modern photographs.
Renowned artists such as Picasso, Dalí, Matisse, and Miró are highlights of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. In fact, this exhibition space was the first museum dedicated to 20th-century art on the West Coast. It was inaugurated in the year 1935!
Other contemporary authors like Jackson Pollock, Richard Diebenkorn, Paul Klee, Marcel Duchamp, and Ansel Adams are also featured in this museum. Surrealism, expressionism, abstraction, and cubism are some of the artistic forms that can be identified in the different rooms.
In order to understand the works on display in the SFMoMa, you can count on your English audio guide. You'll delve deeper into the symbolism that hides within many of these pieces of art and understand the historical context in which these arose.
