Activities in San Francisco

Alcatraz, Muir Woods + Sausalito Tour

  • 25 reviews | 505 travellers
James was an amazing guide!! Despite the bad day of rain and wind, the experience was great and he made it super enjoyable telling very interesting facts about what we were going to see. I would appreciate it if we were allowed to spend a little more time in Muir Woods and Sausalito, since it was brief so we could enjoy it well.

On this tour to AlcatrazMuir Woods and Sausalito, we'll discover two of California's main attractions. Don't miss this if you're in San Francisco!

Description

At the agreed time, we'll meet near the Fisherman's Warf and head for Muir Woods, one of the most amazing places in Northern California. Located just half an hour from San Francisco, this national park is famous for its giant sequoias.

You'll have 70 minutes of free time in Muir Woods to enjoy the green landscapes and discover all of the details of the sequoias. For example, did you know they can grow up to 150 meters tall (492 feet)?

After visiting Muir Woods, we'll make our way to Sausalito, a charming city built on top of a hill on the shore of the bay. You'll have 20 minutes of free time here to take some amazing photos.

Afterwards, we'll start our way back to San Francisco. Along the way, we'll have an amazing panoramic view of the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. To make sure you don't miss any details, we'll make a brief 15-minute stop to take pictures of the quintessential symbol of San Francisco.

The next stop of the day will be at the port of San Francisco, where you'll take a boat (on your own) to Alcatraz, the most famous prison in the world. Did you know that it is known as The Rock?

When you get off the ferry, you'll get an audio guide so you can visit Alcatraz at your own pace (without a guide). During the tour, you'll learn about the history of the prison while listening to stories of jailers and prisoners, thanks to the audio guide.

Finally, you'll take the boat back to the pier at Fisherman's Wharf, where we'll finish the tour after 7 hours of activity.

Schedule and Meeting Point

Depending on the day and time you have selected, you'll have a different meeting time and meeting point available:

  • If you book the 8:30 am tour, the meeting point will be at 488 Post Street, outside Cafe Encore. In this case, we'll go to Muir Woods and Sausalito first, and later go to Alcatraz.
  • If you book for the 9:10 am tour, the meeting point will be Pier 33, Fisherman's Wharf. In this case, we'll visit Alcatraz first and then go to Muir Woods and Sausalito.
  • If the day you select has a flexible schedule, the meeting point will be close to Fisherman's Wharf and the meeting time in both cases will be 6:45 am. However, this timetable is subject to change, so we recommend keeping the whole day free for this activity. The local provider will contact you 48 hours before the activity to confirm the start time and exact meeting point. Also, in this case, we'll Muir Woods and Sausalito first and then Alcatraz, or vice versa.
