Yucatán Camino Real Handicraft Tour
Yucatán Camino Real Handicraft Tour
From your hotel in San Francisco de Campeche, where we'll pick you up at 8 am, we'll head north along part of the Camino Real. This extinct trail, which was laid out by the Spaniards in the 16th century, linked several cities of the Yucatan peninsula.
The main route of the Camino Real connected Campeche with Merida. We'll follow part of this route until we reach Becal, where we'll discover its main handicraft traditions, such as the weaving of jipijapa hats in caves. This ancestral technique has been passed down from generation to generation for decades.
We'll continue our tour along the Camino Real of the Yucatan in Calkiní, where we'll stop at the restaurant La Palapa to recharge our batteries with a delicious lunch. The menu includes a typical dish, with a choice of chicken or pork.
We'll continue our route in Hecelchakán, a small town where we'll continue to discover the history and typical Yucatecan handicrafts. Its hats, shawls and other textiles are made entirely by hand, following techniques that date back to the Mayan era.
The last stop will be in Pomuch. There we'll visit a traditional bakery to see how a master baker makes delicious loaves of bread in a wood-fired oven. Of course, you'll have the opportunity to taste these delicious breads.
From Pomuch we'll finally return to your hotel in Campeche, where we'll arrive at 3 pm.
