In this activity from Campeche, we'll enjoy an unforgettable boat ride to see dolphins near Aguada Island, a paradise on the west coast of the Yucatan.
Aguada Island Dolphin Watching
At 9 am, we'll pick you up at the Ocean View Hotel in Campeche. From there, we'll travel by road to the fishermen's pier located next to the boardwalk of the Magic Town of Aguada Island.
Once we arrive at the pier, we'll embark on a peaceful boat ride. We'll sail along the coast of Aguada Island, where we'll see bottlenose dolphins swimming. These friendly cetaceans can reach up to 6 knots, which is equivalent to a speed of 6.9 mph (11 kph).
Thne, we'll continue our journey navigating through the interior of the Términos Lagoon. In this lake of lush mangroves, we'll make a stop at Isla de los Pájaros (Bird Island), where you'll have 2 hours free to take a refreshing dip and recharge your batteries. Don't forget to bring your picnic!
While resting on the sandbank of Bird Island, you can also admire the great diversity of birds that gives its name to this paradisiacal place. The environmental conditions of its ecosystem allow it to serve as a habitat for numerous species, which we'll identify for you by their plumage.
Finally, we'll return by boat to the pier of Aguada Island. Once we disembark, we'll return by road to San Francisco de Campeche. Arrival back at the starting point is scheduled for 5 pm.
Cetacean Sightings
The coast of Aguada Island and Ciudad del Carmen is one of the best places on the Yucatan coast to see dolphins and other cetaceans. However, the animals are unpredictable. The sighting of a greater or lesser number of dolphins will depend on various factors such as the weather or the reproduction and breeding seasons of the different species.
