El Valiente Lagoon Hiking Tour

We'll pick you up at 8 am at your hotel in San Fabián de Alico, and head over to the Maitenal sector to set off on our hiking trip through this beautiful natural area.

The hike will begin in a lush forest where we'll make several stops to learn about the native plant and wildlife. We'll also have to cross an area of swampy wetlands, which is home to amazing botanical diversity. We'll discover species such as the Canelo, the cypress native to this mountain range, the coigües, and the mañíos.

In spring and autumn, we'll also get to see local flowers such as copihues roses. In addition to the plant life, we'll try to spot some animals as well, such as black woodpeckers or chucaos.

We'll stop at a waterfall before continuing along the trail to the breathtaking El Valiente lagoon. Once we reach the lake, we'll take another break to swim if the weather conditions permit it. We'll also take advantage of this stop to eat a delicious picnic lunch as we admire the views. The menu includes two sandwiches, a piece of fruit, hard-boiled eggs, nuts, and crackers. To drink, you'll be able to choose between coffee or herbal tea.

After lunch, if you wish, we can continue walking up to a viewpoint to enjoy beautiful views of the El Valiente lagoon and its valley. Finally, we'll hike back to the Maitenal sector and from there we'll return to your hotel in San Fabián. Arrival is scheduled between 5 and 6 pm.

Difficulty of the Hike

When we arrive at the Maitenal sector, depending on how you feel, you'll be able to choose which of the following routes you prefer:

  • Medium difficulty route: we'll cover a total of 10 km (6.2 miles), with a change in altitude of 380 meters (1,250 feet) and a maximum altitude of 1180 meters (3,870 feet). This option involves going up a road for 4x4 vehicles, only accessible if the road is in good condition.
  • Medium-high difficulty route: we'll cover a total of 20 kilometers (12.4 miles), with a 730 meters (2,400 feet) change in altitude and a maximum altitude of 1180 meters (3,870 feet).

The price is the same for both routes and we'll follow the itinerary described in the previous section. The only difference will be the difficulty of the different trails.

Hotel Pickup

The tour includes pickup from hotels located in the center of San Fabián de Alico. If you're staying in more remote areas, we'll pick you up at the Plaza de Armas, next to the Tourist Office.
