Night Snorkeling on San Cristóbal Island
At 6:30 pm, we'll meet on Ignacio Hernandez Street in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, where we'll get ready with all the snorkeling equipment, which includes a short wetsuit, flippers and a mask.
Once equipped with all the equipment, at 7 pm we'll head towards the Aquarium I and Zarpe wharf to board a speedboat and begin this night snorkeling tour in Darwin Bay, located on the northwest coast of the island of San Cristóbal.
Once we arrive at the inlet, we'll attend a short introductory technical briefing and get ready with some underwater torches. Are you ready? We'll snorkel at night throughout Darwin Bay, where we'll be able to observe different marine species such as fish, lobsters, prawns, reef sharks, sea lions, sea turtles, starfish and sea urchins. We'll also see plankton, a group of organisms, mainly microscopic, that float in salt or fresh water, and reach a depth of 200 metres (656feet).
For a few moments, we'll switch off our flashlights so that we can properly observe this natural phenomenon- as the plankton are only visible in absolute darkness! Then the magic begins we'll see the waters full of these small microorganisms beginning to glow all around us! We may even be lkcy enough to see see different sea lions swimming close by.
We'll snorkel at night for approximately two hours, and after this unforgettable experience we'll return to the boat for a hot drink and a small snack.
Finally we'll return to the departure pier, where we're scheduled to arrive at 9:30 pm.
