Get off the beaten tourist track and connect with nature exploring two of Chiapas' hidden natural wonders on this tour of the Sima de las Cotorras and El Aguacero Waterfall from San Cristóbal de las Casas.
Sima de las Cotorras & El Aguacero Waterfall Tour
At 4 am we'll pick you up from your hotel in San Cristobal de las Casas and head west to discover two unique natural places in the state of Chiapas: the Sima de las Cotorras and El Aguacero Waterfall.
After a two and a half hour drive, we'll arrive at the Sima de las Cotorras, a 140 metre deep karst chasm. We'll enter the viewpoint and walk around part of the perimeter of this natural canyon to admire the cave paintings on its walls, trees up to 30 metres high and species of tropical forest unique to the area. Keep your eyes peeled for parrots, after which the location is named, which use a unique circular flight pattern to fly in and out of the chasm!
We'll set off for the El Ocote Biosphere Reserve, where we'll take a short hike through the jungle. During the trek, we'll climb down 740 steps with unbeatable views of the La Venta River and the curious caves in the surrounding area. Once we reach the bottom, we'll enter the river to get close to the colossal El Aguacero Waterfall, a 75 metre high waterfall set in a rocky canyon. Here you can enjoy a well-earned refreshing dip in the water!
Afterwards, we'll make our way back, stopping in Tuxtla Gutierrez on the way so you can get some lunch. Finally, we'll return to San Cristóbal de las Casas, where you'll be dropped off at your hotel between 5 pm and 6 pm.
