On this guided tour of San Basilio de Palenque, we'll learn all about the village's history and culture through its murals, museum and community.

Description

At the indicated time, we'll meet at the square of Plaza Principal de San Basilio de Palenque, from which point we'll start this guided tour to learn about its history, culture, and landmarks!

After a discussion surrounding the history of this square, we'll go to see the mural Lengua ri palenge ta bibi ki musica. Here, we'll begin our discussion of the Palenque language, learning about its origins and the current state of it today.

Our next stop will be at the headquarters of the cultural group Posa Kombilesa Mi, whose members will explain how they contribute to enriching the local culture thanks to their music. We'll also see how they play some of their instruments.

We'll then visit a medicinal courtyard, where we'll gain an insight into how ancestral medicine works from a local doctor. Afterwards, we'll visit the Museum of San Basilio de Palenque, where we'll discover the traditional way of life of the people and the work carried out by their women.

After visiting the museum, where we'll spend about 30 minutes, we'll go to the monument of Kid Pambele, a famous boxer who was the world junior welterweight champion on two occasions. We'll discuss Kid Pambele's storied career and his place in boxing history.

We'll end our guided tour of San Basilio de Palenque by taking a stroll around its most iconic murals - those that best represent the cultural identity of the town.

We'll say our goodbyes and return to the starting point 3 hours after the beginning of the tour.
