San Andrés Bunkers Hike
San Andrés Bunkers Hike
At your chosen time, we'll meet at the ruins of the San Andrés Castle. From here, we'll commence our scenic 5 mile (8 km) hiking route.
The hike will begin by walking through the hills of San Andrés. As we climb higher and higher, we'll see an incredible view of the pier and one of Tenerife's most famous beaches, Las Teresitas. Did you know that this bay's golden sand is from the Sahara desert?
During the ascent, we can also admire the Cercado ravine and observe different plant species such as the tabaibal-cardonal, the wild prickly pear cactus or the verode (a type of daisy native to the Canary Islands). This arid fauna will soon be contrasted with a more humid climate as we walk through a small part of the Anaga Rural Park. This lush and leafy space is a UNESCO World Heritage Biosphere Reserve, and definitely worth exploring.
We'll continue hiking with views of Tenerife's coastline until we reach the highlight of our adventure, a World War II bunker. We'll enter its tunnels, rooms and machinegun nests and learn all about its story.
After 3 to 4 hours of walking, depending on the group's pace, we'll arrive back at the starting point.
