We'll pick you up from your hotel at the indicated time to go to the San Agustín Archaeological Park, the largest necropolis in the world and one of the most important archaeological sites in Colombia.
On this tour of the San Agustín Archaeological Park, we'll visit its premises, starting with the Luis Duque Gomez Museum. There we'll see statues, tools and pottery objects found in the excavations of the necropolis.
Next, we'll see the Bosque de las Estatuas, a 700-metre-long (2300-foot) gallery flanked by ancient sculptures. We'll continue through the Mesitas A, B and C, where we'll find funerary monuments and tombs, as well as the famous sculptures of the Eagle and the Sun God.
On this tour, we'll also talk about the wonderous knowledge of the indigenous people of San Agustín culture in the fields of architecture, mathematics and astronomy as well as their philosophy and worldview.
The next stop on the tour will be the Lavapatas fountain, a great work of hydraulic engineering, where we'll discover how it works and why it's so important. We'll then see the Alto de Lavapatas, where a dwelling was found with a hearth and human remains dating back to 3300 BC. We'll also see some mysterious stone mounds, very significant for the culture of San Agustín.
