Shakhrisabz Trip
We will pick you up at your hotel in Samarkand at the scheduled time before heading for Shahrisabz, one of the most historic cities in Uzbekistan. The journey, of one hour and half, will take us across the beautiful Zerafshan valley, and past its many cotton plantations, the mainstay of the Uzbek economy.
Upon arrival in Shahrisabz, we will begin to explore this city that saw the birth of national leader Amir Timur. We will learn the history of this controversial character in the grand square that bears his name. Afterward, we will head to the old town, which has been declared a World Heritage Site.
We will stroll through these central neighborhoods and streets which experienced the city's golden era under the Timurid dynasty. That period is best represented in the Kok Gumbaz Mosque, a beautiful temple built in 1437 that has become the main tourist attraction of Shahrisabz. We will walk around the area and also admire the adjacent mausoleum before continuing the private tour.
A few feet from the mosque we will find the Hazrat-i Imam complex, which houses the tomb of Timur's firstborn son, a place steeped in history! We will then visit the famous White Palace, a majestic summer residence, now in ruins, which was designed as the largest building under Timur.
After enjoying the stunning views of the palace's surroundings, we will say goodbye to Shahrisabz and head back to the hotels in Samarkand. The arrival is scheduled for six and a half hours after the start of the tour.
