Joal-Fadiouth is one of the most picturesque locations on the Petite-Côte coast of Senegal. Discover it for yourself when you take this trip from Saly.

Joal-Fadiouth Private Trip

We will pick you in from the morning from your hotel in Saly, before heading to Joal, one of the two municipalities that form the Joal-Fadiouth area.

When we have arrived at the ancient 15th-century colony, we will make our first stop at the famous fishing port. As we explore the area, you will learn all about its history and the illustrious people from here, such as the poet and politician Léopold Sédar Senghor, the first president of Senegal. Regarded as one of the most important 20th-century African intellectuals, he was the first to be awarded a place in the Académie française.

The next part of our fantastic tour takes us to the neighboring settlement of Fadiouth. To reach the island we will walk across a beautiful wooden bridge which historically unites the two communities. On the other side, you will discover the captivating local cemetery. The tombs and headstones here are mainly built with the shells of moluscs and the graveyard is shared equally between muslims and crisitians. Over the passage of time, this location has become a symbol of peace and tolerance between the different religions and cultures of Senegal.

When we have finished our tour of the cemetery, we will make our way back to mainline. You have the option of taking a gentle canoe ride to return to Joal (optional - €15). Each vessel can hold just one passenger. Alternatively, you can walk back via the same bridge we arrived on.

From Joal, we then take you back to your hotel in Saly. During the journey of around one hour, you will admire the beutiful coastal landscapes of Senegal.
