Trip Details
At the indicated time, we'll collect you from your hotel and then head to the port of Dakar. There, a ferry will be waiting to take us to the captivating Island of Goree.
As we explore the island of Dakar, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you'll learn all about the important role it played in the Atlantic slave trade. Our first stop on the tour of Goree is at the House of Slaves which was used as a prison and market for slaves during this terrifying chapter from history.
Later, we'll stroll through the colorful narrow streets, lined with pretty colonial houses. We'll reach the historic fort, where you'll have stunning panoramic views of the coastline. Then we board the ferry again and sail back to Dakar. At the city's port, a bus will be waiting to take us to Lac Rose (the Pink Lake). This beautiful natural area is famous for having been the last stage of the Paris-Dakar Rally up until 2008.
We'll get in a 4x4 vehicle which will take us on a tour of the lake's beautiful surroundings. Besides the amazing pink waters of Lac Rose, you'll also see the gorgeous sand dunes which separate it from the Atlantic ocean.
Finally, before heading back to Saly, we'll enjoy a refreshing dip in the lake. You'll discover that you'll easily float on the surface due to the water's high salt content.
The tour will come to an end 10.5 hours later back at the starting point.
Bathing in Lac Rose
We'll only bathe in Lac Rose if there is sufficient time remaining at that stage of the tour. You'll have 15 minutes to enjoy the salty, pink waters.
Please Note
Due to the heavy rains of summer 2024, the lake has retained a lot of water and has lost its colour. Salt extraction activities have started up again, along with the excursions and activities offered there, but the colour has not returned yet, and we do not know when it will be pink again.
