Cabra Corral Reservoir Trip
We will leave the center of Salta at 9:30 am, taking the RN68 road and heading south through the beautiful Lerma Valley.
During the journey, we will pass through beautiful villages such as Cerrillos, La Merced, El Carril, and Coronel Moldes. Then we leave the RN68 behind and take another road which goes directly to the Cabra Corral reservoir - home to one of the most outstanding dams in the north of Argentina.
You then have about one hour of your own free time to have a drink and enjoy the views of this gigantic mass of water nestled in beautiful surroundings. Did you know that this reservoir is the second largest in the country? The confluence of the Pasaje, Juramento, and Salado rivers generates a huge amount of hydroelectric energy that supplies a good part of the Argentinean provinces in the northwest.
This colossal work of engineering, built between 1966 and 1972, reaches a height of 305 feet. While the reservoir is so big that several dozen Olympic swimming pools could be filled with the same amount of water!
After contemplating the landscapes of Cabra Corral, we will return to the center of Salta, arriving at 2 pm.
