Bird-Watching in the Palmas de Cera Sanctuary
Description
We'll pick you up at your hotel in Salento or Filandia at the indicated time to head towards Pijao, a town located in the heart of the Eje Cafetero of Colombia.
After the road trip, we'll arrive at the main square, where we'll get into a 4x4 vehicle to start this adventure in search of the native birds of the Andean Region. How many will we manage to spot?
We'll arrive at the beginning of a trail that runs through the sanctuary of wax palm trees, the national tree of Colombia. This ascending path will take us through the La Palmera trail, where we'll find different observation points where we'll stop to watch the birds flying over the palm trees.
You'll be able to see marail guans, Andean eagles, white-tailed hawks, golden-headed quetzals, toucans or yellow-eared parrots, among other endemic species that inhabit the wax palm sanctuary. We'll also take some photographs before continuing our hike to a peasant farm where we'll replenish our strength with lunch.
After lunch, we'll walk back to where we left the 4x4 and drive back to Pijao. From there, we'll head back to Salento or Filandia, where we'll arrive 10 hours after pickup.
