Discover Salamanca's rich history on a guided tour of its iconic landmarks such as Plaza Mayor, the Old and New Cathedrals, and one of Europe's oldest Universities.

Tour Details

At the indicated time, we'll meet beneath the clock in Plaza Mayor, right in the heart of Salamanca. Once we're all together, we'll embark on this journey through the city of Salamanca.

We'll begin in Plaza Mayor, often said to be one of Spain's most beautiful squares. As we admire it, we'll learn about how Salamanca rose to prominence in the Spanish Empire, along with a few hidden tales about the square itself. From here, we'll make our way to the nearby Plaza del Corrillo, where Salamanca’s medieval heritage still lingers.

Our next stop is the iconic Casa de las Conchas, a breathtaking Gothic-style building adorned with hundreds of carved shells. Just a stone's throw away, we'll marvel at the majestic façade of La Clerecía, an impressive Baroque structure that now houses the Pontifical University of Salamanca.

As we continue, we'll arrive at the historic Patio de Escuelas Mayores, home to the University of Salamanca. Did you know that it's one of the oldest universities in Europe? Here, you’ll discover fascinating stories from its prestigious past and spot the famous Frog of Salamanca hidden in the intricate Plateresque façade.

We'll also explore the serene Patio de Escuelas Menores, where we'll step inside to admire the Sky of Salamanca, a mesmerising ceiling mural depicting a Renaissance-era celestial map.

Next, we'll head to Plaza de Juan XXIII, where we'll hear about the origins of the Old Cathedral, a remarkable Romanesque masterpiece. Just a short walk away, in Plaza de Anaya, we'll be awestruck by the towering New Cathedral, which blends Gothic and Baroque architecture.

After between 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours, our tour will conclude at Plaza de Anaya. Before we part ways, the guide will share some top recommendations for where to eat and drink, so you can continue enjoying Salamanca’s delights for the rest of your stay.
