Have you ever imagined venturing to the centre of the earth? Well, now you can with this guided tour of the Grottes de Betharram. You cannot miss this activity!
Grottes de Betharram: Journey to the Centre of the Earth
This exciting tour takes place at the Grottes de Betharram, a truly fascinating location between Pau and Lourdes, marking the border between the Pyrénées Atlantiques and the Hautes Pyrénées.
Once we've arrived at the Grottes de Betharram, just a short drive from Lourdes, we'll be guided through an enchanting underground world. Over hundreds and thousands of years, water has slowly trickled through these rocks to form limestone formations like stalactites and stalagmites. As we delve deeper into the cave, we'll notice the intricate shapes of the curious rocks. Geology buffs will feel right at home here!
Our first stop inside the caves will be at their upper level. There, we'll have the opportunity to check out the sheer diversity of the rock formations and the unique geological story they tell. Then, we'll descend even further into the very centre of the cave, which will lead us to a dramatic subterranean river. Next? We'll hop on a boat which will take us on a tour along the cave's tranquil waterway.
After this boat ride, offering us a unique perspective of the caves, we'll switch from a boat to a charming train, which will take us right back to the main entrance of this limestone labyrinth.
Finally, we'll bring this exciting guided tour to an end after 1 hour and 20 minutes together.
