Lampivaara Amethyst Mine Day Trip
Lampivaara Amethyst Mine Day Trip
After being picked up from your hotel, you'll board a bus and head to the north of Rovaniemi. After an 80-mile (120-kilometre) journey, you'll arrive in the picturesque Lappish village of Luosto, where the Lampivaara amethyst mine is located.
To reach the top of the hill in which the mine is located, you'll climb onto a snowcat, a vehicle that will take you through the snow on a beautiful route through the incredible snow-capped forests of Finland.
High up on the peak, you'll leave the snowcat behind and walk up to the amethyst mine, which has over 2,000 million years of history. Enjoy a guided tour of the mine, during which you'll learn all about the purple stone, its properties and its uses. Admire the stunning violet colour of this sparkling quartz as you discover the history of the mine.
What's more, you'll have the opportunity to visit the excavation zone and try your hand at digging for jewels deep in the frozen Finnish land. You'll even get to keep the amethysts you find as a souvenir of one of very few precious gem mines in the world to welcome tourists.
As you exit the depths of Lampivaara mine, you'll be able to enjoy the most stunning views of the surrounding countryside from your hilltop location. Don't forget your camera!
Next, warm up around a campfire and enjoy a sandwich and a nice hot drink. Then, the tour will come to an end and you'll be taken back to your hotel in Rovaniemi 6 hours after departure.
