Kalinago Culture Shore Excursion
Kalinago Culture Shore Excursion
At your chosen time, we'll meet at your selected meeting point in Roseau. As soon as we've all arrived, we'll board the minibus and head to the northeast of Dominica, where the Kalinago Territory is located.
After a 1 hour drive, we'll arrive at the Kalinago Territory, where around 3,000 indigenous Kalinago people live. Throughout the day, we'll meet some Kalinago people and hear from them about their culture, history and way of life.
The first place we'll visit is a bakery where we'll learn how the Kalinago bake traditional bread - delicious! Afterwards, we'll head to a pottery workshop where we'll learn about their historic pottery techniques. If you'd like, you can buy a piece of pottery here. We'll also visit a basket-making workshop and learn about this unique type of art.
We'll then have the opportunity to see a live performance of the Kalinago people's traditional dances. You'll see first-hand how their dances are full of strength, power and enthusiasm.
Following this rich cultural experience, we'll head back to Roseau and arrive back at the starting points 7 hours after our shore excursion began.
